District to host Unified Game Day; robotics team reports success at Worlds

The Marlborough School Committee received two community‑oriented updates on May 13, 2025. Assistant Superintendent Mrs. O'Brien said the district will host a Unified Game Day sponsored by the Special Olympics on Friday, June 6, 2025 at the high‑school track and field, with opening ceremonies at noon and closing ceremonies at 2 p.m. Participating schools include Kain Jarwick, Goodnow, Richard and Wickham elementary schools, plus the high school; events will include relays, shot put, long jump, bocce, ring toss and other inclusive competitions. Staff and students will wear T‑shirts provided for the event and the district invited committee members and community members to attend and cheer.

Separately, committee member Mr. Ratul reported that the district robotics team competed at Worlds in Dallas against over 830 teams from roughly 53 countries and placed 59th overall and second of Massachusetts teams. Students described the experience, lessons learned about team organization and plans to present demonstrations and compiled media at local schools.

Committee members asked about the condition of the high‑school track where the Unified Game Day will be held; staff said the site has hosted events and was expected to be safe, though some members observed it "is not in the best shape." No additional facility work or mitigation commitments were announced at the meeting.
