Columbia County committees advance package of routine contracts, grants and donations

Staff recommended and committees moved to accept an independent contractor agreement with CSRA Probation Services for misdemeanor probation services (term described as July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027) and a one-year, no-cost lease renewal with the State Properties Commission to house Department of Community Supervision probation officers. Both items were placed on the consent agenda and approved.
Officials accepted a $37,216 Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) for salary match and a FY27 CJCC grant for the state accountability court program with an award of $301,226 and required matching funds budgeted at $53,157 (total $354,383), as described in the meeting packet; staff recommended acceptance of both grants.
The committee also approved several small donations—animal services donations totaling $1,385 (examples recited in the meeting), a $375 donation to the senior center, and a $1,200 Arts Development Fund grant to support a free Columbia County Ballet “Ballet in the Park” event planned for Sept. 26, 2026. Fire and Emergency Services reported collecting $58,247.11 in this year’s boot drive and recommended equal distribution to the Burn Foundation and Community Connections; staff will prepare a presentation if that item is moved out of consent.
The consent package and associated items were moved and recorded as approved by the committees. Several items were moved to the full board for final consideration where noted.
