The Chaplin Planning & Zoning Commission on March 10 reviewed the resignation of Alternate member Cesar D. Beltran and postponed action to fill the vacancy until the commission’s regular April meeting.
The Democratic Town Committee submitted a formal nomination for John Meyer (letter from Committee Chair Helen Weingart is included in the meeting record). Vice-Chairman Peter Fiasconaro nominated Dan Pierce. The commission discussed the correct procedure for filling a mid-term alternate vacancy (the seat is held by a Democrat under minority-representation rules) and, after discussion, Randy Godaire moved to postpone filling the vacancy until April. The motion was seconded by Eric Beer and recorded as carried. The two nominations made on March 10 will remain in effect and the commission may accept additional nominations at the April meeting.
In his resignation letter (dated Feb. 23, 2016) Cesar Beltran said teaching responsibilities at Eastern Connecticut State University and duties on the Town of Chaplin Board of Finance precluded further participation on the PZC.
