Ashville council approves road paving resolution, $1,500 donation and routine minutes

At its Oct. 6 meeting, the City of Ashville Council unanimously approved Resolution 2025-039 to pave Stolle Farm and Cooper Hill, authorized a $1,500 contribution to the ARC of St. Clair County, and approved several sets of minutes and routine bills.
Mayor Derrick Mostella called the City of Ashville Council to order at 6:24 p.m. on Oct. 6, 2025. Present were Mayor Derrick Mostella and Councilmembers Adam Abernathy, Shirley Smith and Denise Williams; Councilmembers Robin Bowlin and Edward Roscoe Lane were absent.
The council moved quickly through routine business. Councilmember Shirley Smith moved to approve the final agenda; Councilmember Denise Williams seconded and the motion carried with unanimous yes votes from the members present. The council then approved minutes from Sept. 15, 2025; the Sept. 25, 2025 Special Called meeting; the Sept. 30, 2025 Canvass meeting; and the Sept. 30, 2025 Special Called meeting. Motions to approve each set of minutes were made and seconded as recorded and each passed unanimously.
On substantive business, the council approved Resolution 2025-039 to pave roads on Stolle Farm and Cooper Hill. Mayor Mostella asked for the motion; Councilmember Denise Williams moved to adopt the resolution and Councilmember Shirley Smith seconded. All present councilmembers voted yes and the resolution was approved.
The council also authorized a $1,500 contribution to the ARC of St. Clair County for services provided to Ashville citizens. Councilmember Denise Williams moved to approve the contribution; Councilmember Shirley Smith seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The council voted to pay the bills presented for payment after a motion from Councilmember Denise Williams and a second from Councilmember Shirley Smith, with all present members voting in favor.
Announcements near the meeting’s close included the next council meeting on Oct. 20, 2025 at 6 p.m. with a 5:30 p.m. work session, and that City Hall will be closed Oct. 13 for the Columbus Day holiday. Councilmember Denise Williams moved to adjourn; Councilmember Shirley Smith seconded, and the meeting was adjourned. The minutes were signed by Mayor Derrick Mostella and City Clerk Chrystal St. John.
