Administrators said feedback indicated confusion in how the handbook language is being interpreted by teachers and families and identified a developmental readiness concern for students entering sixth grade. The subcommittee directed the administration to develop proposed homework language for inclusion in the 2026–27 Student and Family Handbook. The minutes note that principals will solicit input from their building instructional leadership teams (ILTs) and school councils before the item returns to the full School Committee for discussion and any vote.
The subcommittee did not adopt new policy language at the May 26 meeting; the item was forwarded for administrative drafting and community consultation.
