Superintendent reviews midyear goals; MSBA accepts preferred schematic for new elementary school

At the March 24 meeting the superintendent presented a midyear check‑in on district goals, highlighting work on curriculum alignment, supports for English learners, professional development for teachers, and safety and security coordination.
The superintendent said the district is prioritizing implementation of a new math program and more inclusive instructional models for English learners. She described creation of a district Instructional Leadership Team to align curriculum and data practices and highlighted a student–teacher data protocol to inform instruction based on NWA/MCCAST assessment data. On staff development, leaders detailed a feedback protocol for classroom visits and continued emphasis on culturally responsive teaching led by the district's ABAR committee.
On safety, the superintendent noted a cross‑sector safety and security team that includes the mayor's office, Marlborough Police and Fire, public works and technology staff; a district‑wide Q&A with Sergeant Tingloff is planned for March 31. The superintendent also previewed the portrait‑of‑a‑learner domains that will guide the strategic plan and said a fuller presentation is scheduled for April 14.
Separately, school building committee members reported that the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) voted to accept the district's preferred schematic for a new elementary school sized at 950 students, allowing the district to move forward in the MSBA process on design and next planning stages.
The superintendent also briefed the committee on a Whitcom/Wickham principal search timeline (posting, screenings, interviews and finalist visits) with committee action expected on May 12.
