The Harvard School Committee on Nov. 10 adjusted its budget timeline and confirmed next steps in the superintendent search and bargained labor preparations.
Chair Abigail Besse said the budget timeline was revised to allow additional review by the Finance Committee and other stakeholders. Staff developed a new schedule: the initial FY27 budget will be presented to the committee on Dec. 8, with a vote on the initial budget planned for Dec. 15. Members noted an upcoming CPIC review of school capital projects and discussed a $2.1 million CPIC request that excludes the Bromfield HVAC work; potential cuts were said to be under consideration.
The committee also reviewed logistics for the superintendent screening process and reported that 22 applicants had applied, with at least one additional candidate expected to submit materials; screening interviews are scheduled for the coming week.
At 8:09 p.m. the committee voted 5–0 to enter executive session to discuss strategy related to collective bargaining with the Harvard Education Association. The motion to enter executive session was made by Chair Besse and seconded by Liz Joyce. The meeting recessed for executive session following the vote.
The committee’s next full meetings are scheduled for Nov. 24 and Dec. 8.
