Volunteers Valerie Chapman and Mark Elliott opened the June 24 North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District meeting by presenting a $20,000 grassroots donation to benefit Concord Community Center and announced the second annual Heart of the Community fundraiser for Oct. 10.
Chapman and Elliott told the board the donation drew contributions ranging from small gifts to donations of up to $1,500 and reflected widespread local support for programming at the new community center. Elliott, who identified himself as a DAC vice chair and resident of Oak Road, thanked attendees and invited donors to join a photo in the meeting room.
The presentation was moved ahead of the public comment period at the request of the presenters. The board accepted the donation and used the moment to note the strong turnout for the meeting and the level of community engagement on park issues.
