The Pella City Council voted to award the Airport Water Main Expansion contract to Pirc-Tobin in the amount of $698,383 on May 19. The project—part of a development agreement with Pella Corporation—will install approximately 7,450 linear feet of 8-inch water main, 315 LF of water services, clearing, pavement patching and related work to loop water service from Fifield Road to Idaho Drive and serve a new hangar.
Garden & Associates, the project engineer, recommended awarding the project to the lowest responsive, responsible bidder after 11 bids were received. The engineer’s estimate for the work was $948,350; the low bid from Pirc-Tobin was $698,383. Council adopted Resolution Nos. 7067 (plans/specifications/estimate) and 7068 (award of construction contract) on unanimous roll call votes.
Public Works staff noted the looped eight-inch main was selected over a dead-end line to provide optimal system performance and reliability for the airport hangar area. No public comments were received during the hearing.
