Regional School District 10 curriculum committee approves minutes, hears update on teacher professional learning

The Regional School District 10 Board of Education Curriculum Committee met March 17, 2026, in the Central Office Conference Room and approved the minutes from its Jan. 20, 2026, meeting. The committee also received an update on the district's teacher professional learning schedule and on the rescheduling of a math program called "Count it Out."

Vonetta Romeo-Rivers, director of teaching and learning, told the committee the district's professional development calendar for the 2025'2026 school year includes five full days of teacher development and six half-day sessions. She said there is one day designated as a teacher-choice day and that, to start the 2025'2026 school year, teachers had two full days of focused learning plus an additional half day on the first school day for students.

Romeo-Rivers described "Count it Out," a math-focused program she characterized as providing substantial instructional value. She said an October 2025 viewing of the program was disrupted by unforeseen circumstances and that the district is rescheduling the presentation; the committee expressed interest in viewing the program this year. No new date was specified.

Procedural items included the unanimous approval of the Jan. 20 minutes on a motion by Matt Szydlo, seconded by Rachel McFadden. The committee noted there were no topics identified for April 2026 and decided to cancel that meeting. A motion to adjourn by Cassandra DuBois, seconded by Rachel McFadden, closed the meeting at 5:18 p.m.

The committee did not take additional formal actions or set a rescheduled date for the "Count it Out" presentation during the March 17 meeting.
