Parents urge clearer communications and routine OLSAT results at Preston School Board meeting

At the Jan. 13 Preston School Board meeting, parents urged the district to improve school–family communications and to routinely share OLSAT testing results without requiring individual parent requests.
During public comment Kayla Thompson said there is 'a communication issue in the district' and described conflicting calendars showing Jan. 17 as a full professional development day on one schedule and a half day on another; she suggested the district send ConnectED reminders to parents before PD days. Kelly McNamara asked that OLSAT testing results be provided to parents routinely, saying, 'Parents should not have to request the results.' Cara Sawyer told the board she 'wholeheartedly agrees' with McNamara.
Superintendent Dr. Roy Seitsinger responded that district staff are meeting to review OLSAT testing procedures and that he will follow up on the research proposal mentioned in an email read by the vice chair. The board did not take formal action on communication protocols or OLSAT reporting at the meeting; Dr. Seitsinger said more details will be provided at a later date.
Context: these comments came during the public comment portion of a regular board meeting that otherwise handled routine business including calendar drafting, fiscal reporting and capital planning. The board invited parents to submit calendar suggestions and requested administrators bring a revised calendar to the February meeting.
