Resident urges publication of Camden’s paid‑parking history and contract details
Summary
During public comment, resident Steven Gold asked the Select Board to publish the town’s paid‑parking history (consultants, costs, equipment ownership/leases, software agreements, and credit‑card processing arrangements) so residents can form informed opinions ahead of upcoming deliberations.

During public comment, resident Steven Gold of Grove Street urged the Select Board to make public the town’s history and contract details related to paid parking.
Gold said he was not there to advocate for or against paid parking but asked that the town communications lead—or other appropriate staff—compile and publish a summary that covers prior consultants, all costs, whether equipment was purchased or leased, who owns the software or holds the software agreement, and whether credit-card payments go directly into a town account or are routed through a vendor that retains a portion.
"I fully believe part of the problems in the past has been not enough information," Gold said, adding that while the information might be available to someone who digs for it, he suspected roughly 80% of citizens did not have easy access to it. The chair reminded the public that paid parking was scheduled for more detailed discussion and possible action at the July 7 Select Board meeting.
Why this matters: Gold framed the request as a transparency measure to ensure residents can evaluate the merits and tradeoffs of paid parking with full information about contracts and revenue flow. The board did not take action on the request during this meeting and directed that paid‑parking discussion be scheduled for the July 7 meeting.
