Harvard reports FY25 closeout near zero aided by $132,000 special-education claim; summer capital work set to begin

Mandy Ostaszewski, director of school finance and operations, told the Harvard School Committee on July 7 that FY25 is on track to close to zero in the general fund budget. She attributed part of that outcome to a $132,000 special-education transportation claim from FY24 that the transcript records as fully funded by Governor Healey.
Superintendent Dr. Linda Dwight outlined summer capital projects overseen by the finance and facilities team: Bromfield flooring work scheduled to begin July 7, sound-mitigation work in two TBMS spaces, exterior-door replacements, ADA ramp and step work (bids posted), bathroom renovations, drainage improvements near the Harvard Cable Cooperative site, and final completion of the girls'locker room. Dr. Dwight said the town Department of Public Works has committed to addressing the drainage issue at the cable studio.
Dr. Dwight also noted the district lacks a town procurement officer; Ms. Ostaszewski will undergo procurement training this fall and is expected to serve as the school procurement officer, which the district anticipates will aid timely procurement for large FY26 projects.
