MASC tells Harvard to launch superintendent search in September to attract top candidates

Glenn Koocher, executive director of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, told the Harvard School Committee on July 7 that the district is well-positioned to attract strong superintendent candidates because of a planned, year-long transition following Dr. Linda Dwight's announced departure.
Koocher recommended launching the search in September 2025 before the winter holidays to maximize candidate interest. He advised forming a search committee that includes both educators and non-educators to advise the School Committee and recommended community engagement tools such as surveys and focus groups to identify community priorities. He emphasized that while the search committee should advise and engage the public, the School Committee will lead and make the final hiring decision.
The committee said it will take Koocher's guidance into account as it begins planning for the search timeline and membership. No formal vote on search procedures occurred at the July 7 meeting; further planning is expected this fall once the Committee defines membership and timeline.
