Clarkston council accepts clerk’s resignation; tables copy machine lease renewal

At its Aug. 12 meeting the City of the Village of Clarkston City Council accepted Clerk Catherine Ashley’s resignation after reconsidering an earlier decision, approved routine agenda items, and tabled a proposed 60-month copy machine lease pending price review; several items were moved to the Aug. 26 agenda.
Mayor Sue Wylie called the City of the Village of Clarkston City Council to order at 7:00 P.M. on Aug. 12, 2024.
After routine roll call and a brief city manager report noting the Aug. 6 election, the council approved the meeting agenda and accepted the consent agenda by unanimous votes.
The council revisited action taken Aug. 1 regarding Clerk Catherine Ashley. Councilmember Gary Casey moved and Councilmember Ted Quisenberry seconded a motion to reconsider the prior council action; the reconsideration carried, 7-0. Following that vote, Councilmember Mark Lamphier moved and Councilmember Gary Casey seconded to accept Clerk Catherine Ashley’s resignation; that motion also carried, 7-0, formally recording the clerk’s departure.
On a separate procurement matter, Councilmember Peg Roth moved and Councilmember Laura Rodgers seconded to table a proposed city office copy machine lease renewal until the Aug. 26 meeting “to allow time to investigate possible price increases over the 60-month life of the renewal agreement.” The motion passed 6-1, with Councilmember Gary Casey voting no.
Council also recorded that a resolution to approve sanitary sewer pipe repairs in the West Alley and a motion to accept the City Manager’s performance review will be placed on the Aug. 26 agenda; no final action on those items was taken at the Aug. 12 meeting.
The council adjourned at 8:40 P.M. Minutes were submitted by City Manager Jonathan Smith.
