'The Pillars of Freedom' installed on Town Hall lawn; dedication set for Sept. 22

A commemorative veterans monument titled “The Pillars of Freedom” was installed on Brookline’s Town Hall lawn; the American Legion and Hollis VFW are organizing a Sept. 22 dedication and are selling engraved bricks to finance a walkway.
Greg d’Arbonne told the Selectboard on Aug. 5 that a commemorative statue named “The Pillars of Freedom” was erected on the front lawn of Town Hall. The sculpture was created and sculpted by local artist and American Legion Post 74 member John Weidman and is a joint project of Brookline American Legion Post 74 and Hollis VFW Post 121373.
Citizens can donate $100 to have an engraved brick placed in a walkway leading to the monument; 78 bricks had been sold as of the meeting. Greg said a dedication ceremony is planned for Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. on the Town Hall lawn; state and local officials will be invited and a reception with light refreshments will follow in the upper Town Hall auditorium.
The board thanked volunteers and organizers for the project and noted recurring veteran outreach such as weekly breakfasts in Hollis. The meeting record did not show any formal funding request to the town for the monument.
