The Department’s technology team is migrating Teach Louisiana content and adding verification tools to the LEAP portal, officials said. Leanna/Leena Hutchinson (presenter) described two verification options: a public homepage name-based search and an HR/preparation-provider-only Social Security number search that allows exact identity matching for authorized users.
"There is now the option for verifying a certificate or teaching authorization through LEAP," Hutchinson said, noting the public name search will show certification areas and degrees and that clicking "more details" will reveal full records similar to Teach Louisiana. HR and authorized prep-provider users will also see a "verify certification" option that accepts Social Security numbers for more precise results.
Hutchinson said the portal will support printing PDF copies of certificates and feedback letters and will display status of certification applications; if the status feature is not live yet, she said it will be very soon. The department emphasized that the SSN search is restricted to authorized HR and provider accounts; public users will continue to rely on name-based searches.
The update is intended to maintain existing Teach Louisiana functions while moving services to an updated backend and adding convenience features for employers and prep providers. Hutchinson encouraged systems to use the SSN search when available to ensure they are viewing the intended individual's record.
