Middleborough students honored for STEM fair projects including teen sleep study

The committee recognized students from Nichols Middle School for their entries in the district STEM fair. Presenters noted record participation this year—33 projects and 44 participants—and praised students for work that extended beyond the school day.
Sebastian Glasby, an eighth grader and first-place winner in the research category, described a project titled "How school start times affect Teen Health," which drew on a 50-response student survey. Glasby summarized teen sleep needs and argued later start times would improve mood, behavior and focus, saying "just 30 minutes of extra sleep each night can make a huge difference." The committee applauded the students and praised their teachers for supporting high participation.
Other student winners included sixth graders Grant TBO and Alex Sheret, who placed in the math/research category for a project on quantum-physics concepts, and sixth grader Sam Bradbury, who won first place in engineering design for a working prototype.
Committee members and the superintendent thanked students, teachers and family partners for contributing to a successful fair and noted the event showcases both academic and extracurricular strengths in the district.
