Easton Fire Commissioners hear 2025 call totals, staffing concerns and radio-project timeline

Chief R. Klem told the Easton Board of Fire Commissioners on Jan. 21, 2026, that the department responded to 36 calls in December 2025 and 582 calls for the year. He said there were four structure fires in December and summarized a handful of notable incidents.
The chief reported that two career firefighters are on medical leave and that the department will use overtime to maintain coverage, a factor he said will raise labor costs in the near term. "There were 36 calls in December 2025. There were 582 total calls in 2025," he said during his report.
Klem reviewed topline strategic initiatives for 2026 and presented an outline of the 2026–27 budget, after briefly reviewing the current 2025–26 budget. He described the radio upgrade as “moving along” and gave a tentative completion date of April 1, 2026.
The commission approved the meeting minutes after a motion by Commissioner David Katz and a second from Commissioner D. Buchanan. Commissioner Katz later moved to adjourn at 8:04 p.m.; the motion was seconded by Commissioner D. Buchanan and carried.
The board did not record a roll-call vote for the procedural motions in the minutes; no other formal votes or ordinances were taken during the meeting.
