Committee members discussed options for town solar projects and funding and noted several state bills that could affect municipal responsibilities.
Tom Schenck said the committee missed approval of a Community Building Grant because of uncertainty about tax refunds but that it still has a chance for a Community Action Grant; he added that the Waterhouse Center Grant is expected to go forward. Schenck and staff discussed the town providing roof-readiness work if a grant is secured.
Wayne Berry briefed the committee on three pending bills at the Maine Legislature: LD 838 (structure for future solar projects), LD 1730 (home solar), and LD 1934 (which could make towns responsible for outdoor lighting). He noted the measures had not passed and did not describe final outcomes. Chris Osterreider said that if the Community Action Grant is awarded the committee will work to secure additional funding to complete projects.
