Kennebunk committee sets April 1 start for composting pilot with West Kennebunk pickup site

The Energy Efficiency Sustainability Committee on Feb. 4 moved forward with plans for a town composting pilot, with an estimated start date of April 1.
Leah Ingram, a committee member, told the group the pilot study is "moving forward with the estimated start date on April 1" and that the subcommittee selected three pickup locations: Washington Fire Station; the West Kennebunk Dorothy Stevens Community Center; and the COS Building in Kennebunk (chosen over the Kennebunk Free Library because of vehicle turnaround space). The subcommittee will finalize the pickup site in Kennebunk and make sign vendor selections in the coming week.
Members discussed signage costs and vendors. Committee members noted an expensive option from Garbage to Garden and said lower-cost options are available from a company associated with David Morrison and from Susanne in coordination with Portland's Best Signage. The subcommittee will report its decision at a future meeting.
