Pleasant Hill seeks grants for regional sports‑facility study and children’s library upgrade

The Pleasant Hill City Council on Feb. 24 approved Resolution #022426-06 authorizing two Prairie Meadows Community Betterment Grant applications: one from Parks & Recreation for an $80,000 regional sports facility feasibility study and one from the Pleasant Hill Public Library requesting $99,999 to renovate the children’s area.
Communications Specialist Candace Bell explained the parks proposal would fund a consultant to evaluate indoor turf and court configurations, parking, community engagement, demand analysis, benchmarking, preliminary cost estimates, operating projections and funding options; the Southeast Polk Community School District has expressed interest in partnering on the study.
Library Director Alex Coggeshel said the library’s project would replace existing shelving with age‑appropriate fixtures, install mobile bench seating that doubles as shelving and add an adaptable play structure. Coggeshel said the full project cost is $106,309.94 and the Friends of the Library would be asked to cover the remaining balance if the grant provides $99,999.
Councilmembers approved the grant applications 5‑0, allowing staff to submit applications and pursue the awards. If awarded, the projects would return to council for acceptance of funds and any required contracting.
