Eastford Board adopts leadership goals, updates policies and approves budget transfers

The Eastford Board of Education approved several administrative and fiscal items at its Nov. 14, 2024 meeting at Eastford Elementary School.
The board unanimously approved the 2024–2025 Leadership Goals on a motion by Michael Bilica, seconded by Lauren Barlow. The goals were presented as part of the Superintendent’s agenda and focus the district’s leadership work for the year.
The Board also moved (Lauren Barlow, seconded by Adam Minor) to replace multiple policies — 4112.5/4212.5 (Employment and Student Teacher Checks); 4152/4252 (FMLA); 1100 (Non‑Discrimination — Community Relations); 4125/4225 (Non‑Discrimination — Personnel); and 5000 (Non‑Discrimination — Students) — with corresponding Shipman & Goodwin policy templates. The motion passed unanimously.
On finance matters, the Board authorized several FY2025 budget transfers on a motion by Robert Ellsworth, seconded by Michael Bilica. The transfers moved $10,000 from custodial salary to custodial substitutes, $13,000 from purchased services (occupational therapy) to purchased services (speech, special education), $2,320.24 from purchased services (physical therapy) to purchased services (speech, special education), and $1,888.04 from secondary tuition (Woodstock Academy) to special education tuition (Woodstock Academy). The combined transfers total $27,208.28; the motion carried unanimously.
The Finance Committee also set the budget calendar: a public comment opportunity during the regular Board meeting on Dec. 12, 2024 at 6:00 PM; the Superintendent’s budget presentation on Jan. 9, 2025 at 6:00 PM; budget meetings on Jan. 21 and Jan. 30, 2025 at 6:00 PM; and, if needed, Feb. 13, 2025 at 5:30 PM, with final review and approval scheduled for Feb. 13, 2025 at 6:00 PM.
There were no contested votes recorded on these items; each motion passed unanimously. The Board adjourned at 7:41 PM.
