Regional District 19 Superintendent Sharon Cournoyer and E.O. Smith Principal Louis DeLoreto presented an overview of E.O. Smith High School’s academic and extracurricular programs to the Eastford Board of Education during the Nov. 14, 2024 meeting at Eastford Elementary School. Board members asked questions about academics, extracurricular programming, student achievement and tuition costs.
The presentation, delivered by Sharon Cournoyer, Regional District 19 Superintendent, and Louis DeLoreto, E.O. Smith Principal, outlined the high school’s course offerings, activities and supports for Eastford students. Board members raised follow-up questions about student achievement metrics, extracurricular participation and how tuition and contract terms affect Eastford’s budget and student placements.
Superintendent Dr. Donna Leake asked the Board how it would like to proceed and urged members to review the materials E.O. Smith provided; Chair Stephen Bowen said there may be more discussion at the next Board meeting. Eastford resident Kerry Blais commented that she “found the E.O. Smith presentation informative.”
The presentation comes as the district updates its E.O. Smith contract, a matter listed under the Superintendent’s report. The Board did not take final action on the contract or on tuition terms at the Nov. 14 meeting; members were directed to review the materials and expect further discussion at a future meeting.
