Auditors plan unmodified opinion on Utica Community Schools' 2024–25 financial statements

Donna Hanson, a partner at Plante Moran, presented the draft 2024–25 audit to the Utica Community Schools Board on Oct. 8, 2025, and said the firm plans to issue an unmodified opinion on the district's basic financial statements and an unmodified opinion with no findings or questioned costs on federal programs.
Holbrook recognized the district's business-office staff for their work during the audit and said the 2024–25 year-end results he presented support the auditors' draft findings. Hanson explained that an unmodified opinion is the highest level of assurance an auditor can provide that financial statements are free of material misstatement and fairly stated.
The minutes also note the district received the Association of School Business Officials International's Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for 2023, the 13th straight year the district has earned that recognition. The final audit will be presented for approval at the board's regular meeting on Oct. 20, 2025.
The draft presentation included the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and Federal Awards Supplemental Information; minutes do not record material deficiencies or questioned costs in the draft report.
