Clarksville delays street-sweeper purchase; council advances patching plan and fall sweep option

Mayor Jerald Heuer told the City Council on July 15 that Clarksville will not be able to buy a new street sweeper this year and that he had spoken with DW Huisman about the company possibly sweeping the town in the fall. Heuer said that, because the purchase cannot be completed this year, arranging a contractor sweep later in the year is the immediate fallback option.
Heuer said he met with Ted Hoodjer of Heartland, who provided updated quotes for patching and seal-coat work. Heuer recommended the council proceed with patchwork this year and include the project labeled “Alt #2.” He said he hopes to have Wilmans and the additional Alt road ready for seal coating next year. Heuer also told council members the city needs to scope sewer lines to inform future road work and scheduling.
The council did not take a separate vote on the street-sweeper purchase at the meeting; Heuer’s announcement framed the equipment decision as a budget/timing limitation and proposed operational alternatives for this fall.
