The Safford Mayor and City Council approved on June 22 a 5% duty differential for the Safford Police Department’s accreditation manager position.
Chief Avila described the multi‑year work the department completed to pursue Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation and noted the continuing annual workload once accredited: the accreditation manager must maintain compliance documentation, update policies, and provide hundreds of proofs annually. Chief Avila said Sergeant Menchaca has carried the added responsibilities for two years in addition to patrol duties.
Council members praised the accomplishment and supported creating a single-position differential, contingent on the department maintaining accredited status. Council moved and approved adding the accreditation-manager differential to the city’s differential policy.
