BRPC presents Vision Zero action plan and crash dashboard for Berkshire County

Nick Russo, BRPC senior transportation planner, presented the BRPC 'Safe Streets and Roads for All' action plan and an online interactive dashboard that maps crash data and a High Injury Network for Berkshire County. He said the analysis covered five full years (2018–2022) and that the dataset used included about 11,000 crashes, roughly 2,200 injuries, 217 serious injuries and 63 fatalities over that period.
Russo described the dashboard and the plan as tools to prioritize corridors for improvements and to support grant applications or project development. He reviewed engineering and non‑infrastructure strategies in the recommendations — including rumble strips, roundabouts, protected bike lanes, improved crossings with flashing beacons, education campaigns and enforcement — and invited residents to join a Vision Zero working group and subcommittees on education, technical assistance and equity/transparency.
Participants discussed coordinating municipal SS4A grants with the county plan, annual reporting of performance measures, and outreach to public‑health departments. BRPC staff said the report and data dashboard are available on BRPC’s website and encouraged residents to use the site’s input tools to flag locations for future study. No formal commitments or votes were taken at the meeting.
