Louisiana Educator Portal adds search tools and expiration alerts; staff reiterate evaluation deadlines and appeals process

Lena Hutchinson outlined recent and upcoming changes to the Louisiana Educator Portal, including a new course-code and area-of-certification finder moved from TeachLouisiana to the portal and an improved expiration-visibility feature that highlights certificates nearing expiration in red and offers a filter to show only expiring certificates.
"The course code and area of certification finder on the Louisiana Educator Portal works very similarly to the one on Teach Louisiana," Hutchinson said, and staff encouraged users to begin using the new portal features ahead of the eventual decommissioning of teachlouisiana.net.
Hutchinson and Rachel Norman, the Department’s director of certification, also spent substantial time on evaluation timing and certification requirements. They warned that many certification applications are denied because the evaluation for the 2025–26 school year has not been finalized and reiterated that several certificate actions — including some renewals and advancement from level one to level two or three — require a set number of effective finalized evaluations (often three) within the specified validity period.
The presenters outlined rules for Teacher of the Arts/Training (TAT) renewals, advancement to level two/three certificates, and EDL1/EDL2 renewal and extension mechanics, and recommended that applicants wait for pending evaluations to be finalized rather than filing premature appeals. Rachel Norman also answered audience questions about potential portal improvements (bulk application starts, search bars) and directed retired teachers seeking VAM data access to the LEADS team at leads@la.gov.
Why it matters: the portal changes should make it easier for HR and providers to locate certification-relevant information; the evaluation-finalization rules and the appeal calendar affect whether an application is denied or must be resubmitted with an additional fee.
