The Superintendent Search Subcommittee approved a community survey to gather input; the committee will distribute the survey after Sept. 22. The subcommittee also discussed a draft job description and recommended adding classroom experience as a preferred qualification. The timeline discussed aims to have a new superintendent selected by winter break and includes public forums scheduled for December; the committee labeled the timeline "subject to change" depending on applicant numbers.
Dr. Dwight also reported on facilities items: an updated Hildreth Elementary School fencing plan was revised after Historical Commission feedback and has received unanimous commission approval; the next steps include meeting with a stonemason and obtaining installation quotes. She said she and the finance director met with Anne McWaters about a possible Community Preservation Committee request for a 14-passenger van estimated at $104,000 to reduce athletic transportation costs, and that HES needs an estimated $16,000 sewer repair due to a bulge in a pipe beneath a conference room. Insurance will not cover the sewer-damage repairs; the Finance Subcommittee recommended using the building rental account to fund the work promptly.
The String Ensemble Club reapplication was approved at the same meeting with a $250 startup fee for the advisor.
