The Town of Falmouth Select Board voted on April 6 to set the fall 2026 annual town meeting for Tuesday, Oct. 26, citing a compressed schedule between finalizing appropriations and the state Department of Revenue's tax-rate certification process.
Mr. Johnson's staff told the board the proposed move of a few weeks would give the finance committee seven to eight weeks to review the capital plan and ease the schedule pressure caused by the DOR review. The board noted the town charter permits holding the meeting after September, and moderator David Viera is expected to be out of the country the week before the previously discussed date, which informed scheduling considerations.
A motion to set the meeting for Oct. 26 was made, seconded, and approved by voice vote; the transcript records affirmative "Aye" responses but does not provide a detailed roll-call tally.
Board members also discussed the order of two citizen warrant articles, Articles 23 and 24. Petitioners had suggested reversing the order so Article 24's broader language would be considered first; board members and the moderator said they preferred to keep Article 23 first because its language and potential amendment could affect how the articles operate together. The board asked petitioners to provide a comprehensive explanation of their proposals before Article 23 is taken up at town meeting.
The board adjourned after completing these items. The Select Board will formally announce the final town-meeting calendar at a later date or at the conclusion of a subsequent meeting, per the meeting record.
