YMCA representative Stacy Pew described the project as a long-awaited permanent home intended to deliver youth development, healthy-living programs, swim instruction, lifeguard training, after-school and teen leadership programs, chronic-disease prevention and workforce development. Pew framed the requested waiver as a partnership to maximize funds directed to programming rather than construction overhead.
Town staff recommended approving the fee waiver for building-permit fees while reserving separate consideration of subcontractor/trade-related fees. Board members signaled strong support, citing the YMCA’s regional benefits and noting the town had not budgeted the revenue: "When surplus or unexpected new growth revenue exists we can consider foregone fee revenue," one board member said in supporting the request.
The Select Board approved the full waiver and asked the YMCA to continue coordination with staff and to document community benefits and expected operating impacts.
