Bourne School Committee approves transportation extension, awards and policy updates in unanimous vote

The Bourne School Committee voted unanimously (6–0–0) on a slate of routine but consequential administrative actions at its remote May 5 meeting, approving a one-year extension of the district—s general-education transportation contract with the Cape Cod Collaborative and several personnel and policy items.
Jordan Geist, director of business services, recommended exercising the second and final one-year option to extend the Collaborative contract using an agreed-upon cost template based on routes and the number of buses required. Steven Strojny moved to extend the agreement; Maureen Fuller seconded and the motion passed by roll-call vote 6–0–0.
The committee also voted to establish a School Committee Navigator Award, a student-recognition honor that will accept nominations from May 6 to May 28 and be awarded in June. Erin Perry moved to approve the award; Maureen Fuller seconded and the motion passed 6–0–0.
Separately, the committee approved a revised JIB policy governing the student representative role and a slate of updated job descriptions, including Intervention Teacher, Library/Media Center Teacher, Nurse, Nurse Leader (a stipend position for an existing nurse), and Executive Assistant to the Special Education Director. Steven Strojny moved to approve the JIB policy and later moved to approve the job-description slate; both motions carried 6–0–0.
Routine governance items were also approved by unanimous roll call: minutes from February and March meetings, an executive-session minutes approval, and warrants and payroll. On nomination business, the committee placed the Josephine Lewis Scholarship ($500) on the agenda and then voted to accept Grace Leach as the scholarship recipient; the motions each passed 6–0–0.
The committee—s votes were procedural and unanimous; no recorded dissenting or abstaining votes were entered in the meeting minutes. The transportation extension will continue the district—s partnership with the Cape Cod Collaborative for the 2021—2022 school year under the existing cost template. The committee did not amend contract terms at the meeting and no additional contingencies were listed.
The committee closed the meeting at 8:00 p.m. after recognizing staff who helped with reopenings and concluding its roll-call business.
