City Manager Holden Osburn told a public hearing of the City of Darien on Oct. 2 that the city will require a property tax increase that would set the millage rate at 3.100 mills, an increase of 0.143 mills above the rollback rate. Osburn said the percentage tax increase the city is required to advertise under statute 48-5-32.1 is 4.84 percent.
Mayor Pro-tem Griffin Lotson called the meeting to order at 12:05 p.m. in the David Bluestein Meeting Room at City Hall. Councilmember Jeff Ragsdale was present; Mayor Hugh “Bubba” Hodge, Councilmember William Collins and Councilmember Russ Quarterman were recorded as absent. City Clerk Priscilla Taylor and City Attorney Sam Oliver were present for staff.
Osburn presented a slide deck outlining the calculation and the proposed millage figure. The minutes record the numerical details but show no motion, vote or formal action to adopt the rate at this meeting. The public comment period produced no speakers.
