Chaplin PZC delays officer elections, agrees to review secretary duties and by-laws

The Planning and Zoning Commission voted to table the election of chairman, vice-chairman and secretary until January. Commissioners agreed staff has been performing secretary duties and directed the zoning enforcement officer to research a by-laws revision process.
At the Dec. 10 special meeting, Chairman Peter Fiasconaro said the commission's by-laws require election of three positions — chairman, vice-chairman and secretary — and the commission decided to postpone the election until its next regular meeting in January because the current vice-chairman was not present.
Commissioner Helen Weingart asked for clarification of the secretary's duties. Chairman Fiasconaro read the relevant by-laws language and the commission discussed that PZC staff have been performing most of the secretary's tasks. The body reached a consensus that the by-laws should be revised to reflect actual practice and directed Zoning Enforcement Officer Jay Gigliotti to research the proper procedure to amend the by-laws and to report back at the next regular meeting.
Helen Weingart moved to table the election, Randy Godaire seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
The commission did not elect new officers at this meeting; the election will take place at the next regular meeting in January.
