The Marlborough School Committee voted to accept a proposal from Focus Schools to lead development of the district's next strategic plan and a "portrait of a learner." The contract was approved during the meeting by roll-call vote; the clerk recorded seven "yes" votes and the motion carried.
Carrie, managing director for Focus Schools, told the committee the firm uses a four‑step process that centers stakeholder engagement, data analysis and implementation planning. "What we want for every single student who crosses our graduation stage in Marlborough" is the project's "north star," she said, and the firm promised two final products — a portrait of a learner and a strategic plan — to be delivered by June 2026.
Carrie described a proposed engagement model of roughly 21 days of district‑facing work that mixes on‑site and in‑district sessions with data analysis. Committee members asked for more detail about how those days would be used and how the firm would invoice, and Carrie said the firm bills only for days actually delivered and would provide a more detailed breakdown.
The committee voted after a short discussion about the firm's prior work and the advantages of a community‑driven planning process. The vote authorizes staff to move forward with Focus Schools and begin the process of community engagement and steering‑committee formation; the firm will return with more detailed schedules and milestones as the contract is implemented.
