Commission approves $1.35M SRO grant application, banking contract, private-act governance changes and multiple budget amendments

On finance items, the commission approved a new banking contract with Home Trust Bank and accepted the annual debt report. The body also amended Private Act Chapter 57 (House Bill 2640 / Senate Bill 2705) to abolish the county road commission effective Aug. 31, 2028, and approved an amendment to Private Act Chapter 58 (HB6242 / SB2703) revising county attorney selection procedures and establishing an annual retainer ($1,200) with the option for additional compensation and expense reimbursement.
The finance committee presented a series of budget amendments and construction change directives—covering general fund adjustments, highway and capital project funds, solid-waste and drug-abatement funds, and a construction change order—which the commission approved.
Public services measures carried as well: commissioners amended the subdivision regulations to change the required cul-de-sac size for new subdivisions from 40 feet to 50 feet (Resolution 26-13), updated the county stormwater program to comply with 'TAC' (Resolution 26-14), and approved the 2026–27 road paving plan. The Hamlin County Beer Board also approved an off-premises beer permit for Simpson Market following a brief hearing on an ownership/organizational change.
