Killingly Board approves Grade 10 ELA textbook, new piano course and advances policy first readings

The board approved as first readings: new Policy #3171.1 (Business & Non-Instructional Operation — Non-Lapsing Education Fund) to align with statutory changes and CABE edits; revised Bylaw #9321 (Time, Place and Notification of Meetings) proposing to hold one regular meeting per month (the second Wednesday) beginning September 2025 while preserving the option for special meetings; Policy #4113.12 (Personnel Certified — Minimum Duty-Free Lunch Periods for Teachers) to formalize an existing practice; and Policy #5113.2 (Students — Truancy) with edits removing a paragraph because a local truancy clinic is not established. All first readings carried unanimously as recorded in the minutes.
Facilities: Assistant Superintendent Jeff Guiot said the Facilities Committee reviewed designs for the KHS access road and is awaiting architect and engineer input on gravel versus pavement and sidewalk options; the committee will return with a final design and cost estimate.
The board also handled routine consent items and moved into an executive session later in the evening to discuss the superintendent evaluation process; no substantive details of that executive session were recorded in the public minutes.
