San Antonio ISD Board names Dr. Adrian Buscailes lone finalist for superintendent

The San Antonio ISD Board of Trustees voted at its June 24 meeting to name Dr. Adrian Buscailes as the lone finalist for the district’s superintendent position, Board Chair Alicia Sebastian said. The board announced the selection after what Sebastian described as a national search that involved more than 2,400 students, families, staff members and community stakeholders.

"This vote marks the conclusion of a thoughtful and comprehensive search process that included input from more than 2,400 students, families, staff members, and community stakeholders," Sebastian said. "Our community wants a superintendent who will put students first, who will support our educators, communicates openly, and continue improving outcomes across the district while building on the programs and opportunities that make SAISD unique."

Sebastian said Dr. Adrian Buscailes currently serves as chief transformation officer for Aldine ISD and has led efforts to increase student outcomes, support school improvement initiatives, expand innovative learning models and help schools adapt to meet students’ and families’ needs. The Board described Buscailes as the candidate they believe is "the right leader for this moment."

As required by Texas state law, the board named a lone finalist and will now enter a 21-day waiting period during which it will continue its due diligence. Following that waiting period, the board will hold a final public vote on any employment contract at a future meeting, Sebastian said.

Sebastian also thanked Interim Superintendent Tony Thompson "for her leadership and for service during this transition," saying the district is stronger because of Thompson’s dedication. The board did not provide a vote tally or additional procedural details in the recorded highlights provided.

The board’s next public meeting to consider final action on the superintendent’s contract has not been scheduled in the recording.
