Walkerville school board approves 21.3181-mill total levy, hires math teacher and boys basketball coach

The Walkerville Public Schools Board of Education on Monday approved a tax levy and authorized two personnel hires during its regular meeting.
Board President George Wolgamott called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. and the board approved the consent agenda, including adoption of the agenda, minutes from the Aug. 18 special work session and regular meeting, and payment of bills.
On a motion by Trustee Albert Tanner, supported by Trustee Mark Riggs, the board approved a tax levy composed of 18.0000 mills for operating, 1.8500 mills for debt, and 1.4681 mills for the sinking fund, applying to the townships of Logan, Merrill, Troy, Crystal, Leavitt, Beaver and Colfax. The motion passed 6 Ayes, 0 Nays. The board did not record additional debate or a roll-call breakdown of individual votes in the minutes beyond the 6-0 tally.
The board approved two personnel actions. Secretary Holly Flanery moved, with support from Vice President Janaya Hood, to hire Austin Dunford as a Secondary Math Teacher for the 2025–2026 school year; the motion carried 6 Ayes, 0 Nays. Treasurer John Kirwin moved, supported by Trustee Albert Tanner, to hire Jeremy Dixon as Varsity Boys Basketball Coach; that motion also passed 6 Ayes, 0 Nays.
Superintendent-listed items were noted for future work, including a strategic-planning meeting scheduled for Oct. 20, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., with presenters listed as Jeff Scott and Christman Facilities Solutions, and an agenda item labeled 'Operating Mileage.' The minutes record those items but show no board action on them at this meeting.
The meeting concluded with final comments and a motion by Secretary Holly Flanery, supported by Vice President Janaya Hood, to adjourn at 8:12 p.m.; the motion carried 6 Ayes, 0 Nays.
