Darien advertises 3.100 mill property tax rate; city to advertise a 4.84 percent increase

City Manager Holden Osburn told the Darien City Council at a public hearing Oct. 2 that the city will require an increase in property taxes and is proposing a millage rate of 3.100 mills, an increase of 0.143 mills over the rollback rate.
Osburn said the percentage tax increase the city is required under 48-5-32.1 to advertise is 4.84 percent. The presentation was delivered as a PowerPoint to the council in the David Bluestein Meeting Room at Darien City Hall.
Mayor Hugh “Bubba” Hodge called the hearing to order at 6:00 p.m. and noted that Mayor Pro-tem Griffin Lotson and Councilmembers William Collins, Jeff Ragsdale and Russ Quarterman were present. City Clerk Priscilla Taylor, City Attorney Sam Oliver and City Manager Osburn were also in attendance.
No members of the public spoke during the public comment period. With no further business, Mayor Hodge adjourned the meeting at 6:20 p.m. The hearing record does not show a formal vote taken on the millage during this meeting.
