Darien council unanimously approves appointments, event permits and sale of surplus vehicles

At its Sept. 16, 2025 regular meeting, the City of Darien City Council unanimously approved appointments to two regional and advisory boards, authorized multiple special-event permits and declared surplus vehicles for sale.

The actions were moved and seconded during routine new-business votes. Councilmember Jeff Ragsdale moved to appoint Robert Hane to the Planning & Zoning Board; Mayor Pro-tem Griffin Lotson seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Later, the council approved a motion by Mayor Pro-tem Griffin Lotson, seconded by Councilmember Russ Quarterman, to grant a special-event permit for Toast to the Coast; that motion passed unanimously. Councilmember William Collins moved, with Councilmember Jeff Ragsdale seconding, to approve McIntosh County Academy’s 2025 Homecoming Parade permit; the council also unanimously approved the Darien Lions Fall Festival permit on a motion by Mayor Pro-tem Lotson and second by Councilmember Ragsdale.

The council voted unanimously on a motion by Mayor Pro-tem Griffin Lotson, seconded by Councilmember Russ Quarterman, to declare certain city vehicles surplus and approve their sale; the minutes record the motion and unanimous vote but do not list the number, makes, or models of vehicles. Councilmember Jeff Ragsdale moved, and Councilmember Russ Quarterman seconded, to appoint Jonathan Rowe to the Coastal Regional Commission Board; that motion also passed unanimously.
