Leaders of the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (CPAC) presented an annual update to the committee highlighting outreach and programming designed to support families of students with disabilities.
CPAC reported a staff-appreciation initiative that collected 25 parent responses across the district, described a calendar of workshops (including resilience-building, mediation process orientation and transition planning), and noted experimentation with virtual and in-person meeting formats to accommodate parent schedules.
Presenters said they partnered with community resources and local experts to run workshops and that CPAC membership and engagement are growing, though participation remains variable. Possible topics for next year include transition planning from middle to high school and universal-design-for-learning (UDL) strategies tailored to students on IEPs.
Superintendent Kelly and committee members commended CPAC’s reorganization last year and encouraged continued outreach. The district noted CPAC has been invited into the superintendent selection process and other advisory roles.
CPAC emphasized its interest in practical transition supports and parent-facing resources (FAQ, orientation models similar to kindergarten orientation but for high-school transition) as priorities for the coming year.
