Ridgewood council adopts consent agenda, approves cigarette-litter grant and HUD program participation

On June 24 the Ridgewood Village Council adopted a five-item consent agenda by unanimous vote, including acceptance of a Keep America Beautiful cigarette-litter grant, a temporary-use agreement for July 4 access accommodations and renewed participation in CDBG/HOME/ESG programs.
At a special public meeting on June 24, the Ridgewood Village Council approved a consent agenda of resolutions (26-182 through 26-186) on a single voice vote.
The consent package included acceptance of a Keep America Beautiful cigarette-litter prevention and recycling grant intended to buy portable ashtrays, attachable receptacles for downtown trash cans, and fund public education. Sean Hamlin, supervisor of sanitation and recycling, told the council the Terracycle ashtray kits will be attached to garbage cans in the central business district and emptied by the Clean Communities program for recycling.
The consent agenda also authorized a temporary use agreement at 20 East Ridgewood Avenue so members of the access community can view the July 4 parade in a less crowded setting; renewed the village’s intent to participate in the Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships and Emergency Solutions Grant programs administered through Burton County; and included the appointment of a municipal court judge.
Council recorded unanimous support for the consent agenda (motions and roll-call ‘Yes’ votes from Council members Mortimer, Parin, Whites, Windgrad and Vaganis). Manager Keith said the Keep America Beautiful grant is time-sensitive and staff planned to sign the documents the next day.
What happens next: Staff will proceed to sign grant documents and implement the ashtray distribution and education plan; the temporary use agreement will be in place for the July 4 parade.
