Board rejects Land & Facilities appointments amid member objections; other committee appointments approved

During the Feb. 13 meeting the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board voted on multiple committee appointments. A motion to appoint members to the Land & Facilities Committee failed after members Samuel Mamou and Raydel Morris objected to the omission of Albert Burl, III, whom they said has relevant background for the committee. The motion failed on a recorded roll call.
Board President Debra Schum presented the appointments. After discussion, the board approved appointments to the Insurance Committee (Sherry DeFrancesch, Jennifer Frizzell, Lindsey Vicknair), the Finance Committee (Samuel Mamou, Raydel Morris, Jennifer Frizzell), the Personnel Committee (Nia Mitchell-Williams, Patricia Triche, Lindsey Vicknair), the Discipline Committee (appointment of Albert Burl, III), the Curriculum Development Committee (Patricia Triche), and the Strategic Planning Committee (Samuel Mamou, Lindsey Vicknair, Nia Mitchell-Williams, Charo Holden, Jennifer Frizzell).
The failed Land & Facilities motion and the discussion about committee composition highlight internal board disagreement over member assignments; the board will revisit Land & Facilities committee membership at a later time.
