Homecoming parade set for Sept. 24; council grants variance for mobile home at 126 St. Bernard

Dee Batiste of the SMSH Quarterback Football Club, the principal of SMSH and Chief Ricky Martin updated the St. Martinville mayor and council on plans for the Homecoming Parade scheduled Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023. The council recorded that the parade will begin at SMSH and conclude at the Festival Grounds.
Separately, at the request of Mrs. Adelia Mercier, the council approved a variance to allow Mr. and Mrs. Mercier to place a mobile home that is older than 15 years at 126 St. Bernard Street. The minutes note the mobile home passed inspection by the City Inspector and that photographs showed it appeared to be in excellent condition despite its age. The council moved to grant the variance and also directed that a process be established within the next month for approval of requested variances going forward.
The minutes include no opposition or appeal related to the variance; the council recorded the motion as carried. The parade update and the variance approval were routine agenda items and the council did not record further follow-up dates in the minutes beyond the one-month timeline for establishing a variance-approval process.
