The building committee first approved a motion to accept the phase two plans, specifications, abatement and demolition scope and the relevant cost estimate; the committee’s vote carried by voice. The Board of Education then approved the identical motion, with Lucy Petrella moving and Linda Darcy seconding. Officials said the motion language was revised during discussion to explicitly include the cost estimate and the language required by SGC42/SCG042.
Kim Nubbing, the district’s director of finance, said the plans and specifications were distributed to members in advance and that approval by the building committee is required before the board vote and before submission to the state review. Staff noted the item must go to the state PCR meeting Wednesday morning to proceed; staff also said phase three PCR review is scheduled for Jan. 22 and that phase three documents were distributed to the building committee and third-party reviewers.
During the board’s vote, a board member said they were "amazed" that the abatement work as specified would require removal of all windows, the brick around them and any tile, and said they were glad the district chose not to undertake that level of work while students were in school. The board did not alter the approved motion on the record; the motion carried by voice vote.
There were no public commenters during the meeting. Staff also reported there were no substantive changes to the overall construction schedule at this time; more detailed scheduling will be discussed as state approvals approach.
Next steps: staff will file the approved documents and cost estimate for the state PCR review noted for Wednesday morning and continue preparations for the January PCR on phase three.
