Grant check misissued; Westbrook Library to use LGF funds for early literacy program

Library Director Michelle Centore presented the March financial report and updated trustees on a grant issue affecting an early literacy program.
Centore said the Community Foundation of Middlesex County approved a $1,500 grant intended to support the "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" program, but the grant check was made out to "Friends of Westbrook Library" and the bank would not accept it. The library is awaiting a reissued check; in the interim, staff will fund the program from the library’s LGF account so planned activities can continue.
Trustee Elizabeth Fabrizi moved to accept the April financial report as presented; Megan Ruppenicker seconded the motion, which passed with all trustees present voting in favor. The minutes note the Board of Finance also approved the proposed budget, which will proceed to a town meeting vote on May 12.
The minutes do not include further financial details such as the library’s total LGF balance or the date expected for the reissued check. The board also discussed continuing to work with WP Forms for calendar services as a short-term backup until the vendor Assabet is set up.
