The council granted the SMSH Alumni Association permission to hold its Homecoming Parade Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1:00 p.m., with a route beginning at the SMSH campus, proceeding south to Denier Street and returning to campus; the association will return to the council to seek approval for planned activities at Magnolia Park. The council also ratified permission for Maris Stella to hold Fete' de Ville on Aug. 31 from 4:00–8:00 p.m.
Council approved adding a request from the SM Main Street Association to the agenda and later granted permission for that group to solicit donations for the Annual Christmas Festival and other events. The council also approved a travel authorization for CRT Director Danielle Fontenette to attend the Louisiana Main Street Destination Downtown Conference in Vicksburg, Miss., Sept. 11–13; registration of $175 will be paid by the Louisiana Main Street Association.

Mayor Willis and Pam Granger of McBade Engineers discussed the need to hire a grant writer to manage increasing grant paperwork and administration; Mayor Willis will identify candidates and present them at the next council meeting. In his report the mayor also announced a Water Consolidation District meeting on Sept. 4 at 6:00 p.m., and noted open positions for dog catcher and a street sweeper driver.
