Holbrook committee unanimously names Phyllis P. Tanner Media Center, approves policy package and minutes

The School Committee voted 5-0 to name the Holbrook Middle-High School media center the Phyllis P. Tanner Media Center, to approve a package of third-reading policies (nondiscrimination, Title IX grievance procedures, admissions, attendance, bullying prevention, cell-phone rules), and to approve the Sept. 12, 2024 minutes as amended.
At its Oct. 17 meeting the Holbrook School Committee unanimously approved several formal actions.
Motion and vote on media center naming: Committee member Fred White moved and Renee Malvesti seconded a motion to name the Holbrook Middle-High School media center the Phyllis P. Tanner Media Center. The motion carried 5-0-0.
Policy package: The committee approved third readings of a package of policies, as listed in the meeting attachments. The package included Policy AC (Nondiscrimination); ACA (Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex); ACAB (Sexual and Sex-Based Harassment and Retaliation); ACGA (HPS Civil Rights Grievance Procedure); ACA-R and AC-R (Title IX/Nondiscrimination procedures); ACGB (Title IX Sexual Discrimination Grievance Procedure); JEB (Entrance Age); JF (School Admissions); JFABC (Admission of Transfer Students); JFABE (Educational Opportunities for Military Children); JHD (Exclusions and Exemptions from School Attendance); JH (Student Absences and Excuses); JOB (Student Involvement in Decision-Making); JICFB (Bullying Prevention); and JICJ-R (Cell Phones & Personal Electronic Devices). The motion to approve the third readings was moved by Fred White and seconded by Renee Malvesti and passed 5-0-0.
Minutes approval: The committee moved to approve the Sept. 12, 2024 School Committee meeting minutes as amended; that motion passed 5-0-0.
All recorded votes at the meeting carried unanimously; the minutes list the votes as 5-0-0 for the named items. No roll-call individual vote breakdown other than the unanimous tallies appears in the minutes.
